What Is Pickleball?

The fastest-growing sport in the world — and it's easy to see why. Fun, social, and easy to pick up at any age.

The Basics

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It's played on a smaller court with a solid paddle and a perforated polymer ball. The rules are simple, the learning curve is gentle, and the fun starts immediately.

How It's Played

Games are played to 11 points (win by 2) and can be singles or doubles. The court is about the size of a badminton court with a low net. A unique "kitchen" (non-volley zone) near the net adds a strategic element that makes pickleball unlike any other racquet sport.

  • Serve underhand, diagonally across the court
  • Let the ball bounce once on each side before volleying (the two-bounce rule)
  • No volleys allowed in the kitchen (non-volley zone)
  • Points are scored only by the serving team

Why It's So Popular

Pickleball has exploded globally because it's genuinely fun for everyone. The smaller court means less running, the underhand serve is forgiving for beginners, and the social nature of doubles makes it a brilliant way to meet people and stay active.

  • Easy to learn — Most people are playing rallies within minutes.
  • All ages & abilities — From kids to retirees, everyone can play.
  • Low impact — Easier on the joints than tennis or running.
  • Highly social — Doubles is the most popular format, and you'll meet new people every session.
  • Surprisingly strategic — The kitchen rule and soft game add layers of depth for competitive players.
